IPEI Announces Round 2 Grants and Expands Criteria for March 29

Facebook photo for harp 2IPEI has announced the Teacher Grants and Red and Gold Grants awarded during the second round of  2016-17 applications by teachers and others working with Ithaca City School District students. According to Grants Committee Chair Connie Patterson, “$8850 was allocated for four Red and Gold Grants and seven Teacher Grants.” In addition, there are two Connecting Classroom Grants (max. $10,000 each) being implemented at Belle Sherman Elementary School and DeWitt Middle School (see lists below).

IPEI’s grants programs are funded by the Annual Adult Spelling Bee coming up on Sunday, March 5, and through the support of individuals, businesses, and organizations.

Steve Manley, executive director of IPEI, expressed, “We’re excited to open up our third round of grants to Teacher Grants along with Red and Gold Grants, and to consider applications for activities that would go into effect at the beginning of the 17-18 school year!” March 29 is the Round 3 deadline; information on each type of grant and how to apply can be found at ipei.org/grants

Connecting Classrooms Grants (as of Feb. 16, 2017)

Belle Sherman Elementary School: Outdoor Learning Space & Nature Trail Development – PHASE II
Lead ICSD Applicant: Dan Breiman
With ICSD teachers: Randi Beckmann, Allison Trdan, Monica Lang, Sheila Bowman, Viviana Sitz, and Deb Sidhu; Caroline Elementary School teachers
This is a project that continues to encourage high-level energy and engaging, authentic, and local curriculum work. The timing is optimal to build on the already existing excitement and curiosity around the Belle Sherman outdoor learning space begun in 2015-16. This will help to create deep and meaningful learning opportunities.

 

DeWitt Middle School: Communicating Science Through Exhibits and Demonstrations
Lead ICSD Applicants: Elizabeth Quadrozzi and Yvette DeBoer, DeWitt Middle School, with teachers Linda Sterk and Carol Hoffman; and Roberson Museum and Science Center, Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Sciencenter, Museum of the Earth, Physics Bus, and Cornell Raptor Program
To support bringing in various community organizations to do a demonstration for students on how they design exhibits to teach others or design demonstrations to engage the listener.
