Ithaca STEM Advocates Make a Difference

June 29, 2015
The Ithaca STEM Advocates have finished a successful second year since its founding and its affiliate relationship with IPEI.
IthacaSTEM connected community volunteer mentors to the Ithaca High School senior engineering class to help develop product ideas. Donors and sponsors made available a pool of funds for “Pitch Night” hosted by IthacaSTEM during which students vied for funding to help build their prototype product ideas. This highly successful initiative will be implemented again next year.
Thanks to generous donors, IthacaSTEM was also able to grant funding to:
– DeWitt TSA to convert two go-carts to electric power
– Trout in the Classroom, a collaborative effort with elementary and high school students to study invasive fish
– IHS Biology to purchase a new digital microscope
– Boynton Math Club to purchase a subscription to a math problem database
IthacaSTEM looks forward to an expanded Networking Night in the fall to bring together STEM-related student groups, teachers and community members to collaborate on ways to bring more hands-on Science Technology Engineering and Math activities to ICSD students.
