IPEI Encourages Everyone to “Thank Terrific Teachers”

May 2, 2016

JudyMaxwell thank you (1)IPEI, the Ithaca Public Education Initiative, is participating with Giving Is Gorges, the 24-hour online giving challenge to celebrate local nonprofits and affirm the culture of giving throughout Tompkins County. It begins at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4 and continues until midnight that night raising awareness and funds for the community’s local nonprofits.

Every spring IPEI encourages parents and others to show appreciation for their students’ teachers. This year’s effort begins with IPEI’s Giving is Gorges campaign to “Thank Terrific Teachers” and will continue through the end of school in June.

Because Ithaca City School District (ICSD) teachers deserve recognition and respect, IPEI has been in existence for 20 years working to empower them to innovate while connecting school and community. These connections have been shown to enhance education for all students and to increase student engagement.

“Thank Terrific Teachers” by making a gift to IPEI in their name or names. Giving is Gorges gifts support IPEI grants. Notification of gifts will be sent to the teacher(s) being honored at their school. Last year, more than 120 nonprofits participated in Giving is Gorges with over 1,000 donors donating more than $118,000. It is organized by GiveGab, Community Foundation of Tompkins County, Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Finger Lakes Chapter with Media Sponsors: Well Said Media, ESPN Ithaca, and Tompkins Weekly.

Visit www.givingisgorges.org to see what all of the nonprofit participants and the organizers are saying and follow the event on Facebook GivingisGorges. Also on Twitter and Instagram @GiveGab with #GivingIsGorges.

While IPEI appreciates gifts at any time of the year, efforts like Giving Is Gorges are designed to help causes connect with new donors and to inspire non donors to make gifts.

“Thank you for your continued support of quality education in our district. IPEI grants have an immense impact on the positive growth of our students and community. IPEI is a welcome support to our daily efforts to impart high quality learning,” expressed Samuel Trechter, teacher at Belle Sherman and Caroline Elementary Schools.
