Phyllis B. Brodhead Library Media Technology Fund

Phyllis B. Brodhead was a dedicated and uniquely talented teacher and librarian at Boynton Middle School for 33 years who died in 2007.  The Fund will help the ICSD’s library media centers remain strong and central to the educational process while honoring her deep belief in their importance and her contributions to their development.  An annual grant cycle provides resources to the library at Boynton as well as to other district library media centers. Gifts made in her memory will be fitting tributes to Phyllis who took pride in keeping current with the technological advances in school settings.

The first award was made in 2010 to purchase Kodak PlaySport Cameras and memory cards for Beverly J. Martin, Enfield, and Cayuga Heights Elementary Schools; and for Boynton Middle School. The $1000 annual award was established by Charles Brodhead and many of Phyllis’s family and friends to honor her life, spirit and memory. Additional gifts to the fund are welcome at any time.

Phyllis was a dedicated and uniquely talented teacher and librarian for 33 years at Boynton Middle School. She realized the educational value of technology in the library and classroom settings and became an early adopter, freely sharing her rapidly developing technology expertise with students and colleagues and becoming a tireless advocate for its integration into the educational process.   Phyllis never lost sight of the necessity of maintaining a quality and welcoming traditional library as she also constantly strove to inculcate in her students her love of books and an understanding of their lifelong importance.
