On Oct. 5, more than 300 people came together at Ithaca High School's Performing Arts Center to celebrate IPEI's 15th anniversary, "Fifteen and Forward." The celebration was a "thank you" to teachers and community members for their support. The public was invited to the free, fun, and family-friendly celebration featuring multi-media presentations about IPEI's past, present and future and remarks by teachers and IPEI's collaborators.
While IPEI is immensely proud of how far it has come and how much it has accomplished, this occasion also looked forward for ways to expand and improve the way we "connect school and community." IPEI also invited additional involvement from the next generation of volunteers interested in carrying out the mission of school/community collaborations to ensure the continued excellence of the Ithaca City School District.
Fifteen years ago a group of local citizens including business people, parents and educators saw the need for more community connections and private relationships in support of the ICSD. They created IPEI, the Ithaca Public Education Initiative, that continues to grow in its impact as it strives to enhance the education of every student while providing grants and other assistance to their teachers.
Since 1996, 1000 grants totaling $1,000,000 have been awarded due to the generous support of individuals and organizations who have made donations or have partnered with IPEI.
